KATTAPPANA: A group of nearly 20 people attacked Forest officials and released a person who was arrested for smuggling sandalwood at Vannathura near Marayur on Tuesday night. The officials injured in the attack are Vannathura Forest Deputy Range Officer Abdul Samad and Forest guards Meeran and Deepu. The injured have been admitted to the Marayur Primary Health Centre. The incident occurred at 11.30 p.m. when the officials were returning after taking into custody Soloman of Vannathura Hill. The Marayur police have registered a case. Those who attacked the officials are residents of the colony, where Soloman belongs to, the police said.
