Part of subsidy dues to small units to be paid soon

Special Correspondent

Of the total Rs. 104 crore, Rs. 35 crore will be cleared

Venkataramanappa

Bangalore: The State Government has announced that a major part of the subsidy dues to small-scale industries across the State will be paid shortly.

Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, Minister for Small Scale Industries and Sericulture Venkataramanappa said that of the total dues of Rs. 104 crore, around Rs. 35 crore would be paid.

The balance would likely to be cleared in the next financial year, and small industrialists would be paid based on seniority in establishing their units.

Over the past five years, successive governments have been clearing the dues at regular intervals. At one time, the dues had touched Rs. 750 crore.

Mr. Venkataramanappa said two industrial layouts dedicated to small industries were almost ready at Dobbspet near Nelamangala and another at Magadi.

While the Dobbspet layout was spread over 1,000 acres, the area of Magadi layout was about 1,200 acres. Allotment of sheds and small plots to applicants would be made shortly.

The Ministry has requested Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa to allot 40 per cent of the land acquired for industrial development to small industries.

Meanwhile, the focus was also on developing small industrial layouts in some of the northern districts like Hubli and Belgaum.

Mr. Venkataramanappa said that rural and village industries would also be given a fillip in the State.

“We will provide them all facilities, including infrastructure.”

The waiver of interest on loans obtained by small industrialists from the Karnataka Small Scale Industries Development Corporation (KSSIDC) also had a good effect on repayment.

The Government had earlier announced that those who cleared the loan within a specified time frame would be eligible for interest waiver.

Of the total loan dues of Rs. 33 crore, the KSSIDC had so far received Rs. 16 crore, and it was confident that the balance would be received shortly.

On the sericulture sector, the Minister said he held discussions with the Sericulture Ministers of Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal. Sericulturists in all these States were facing more or less the same problems, following the import of Chinese silk yarn, and they would present them before the Central Ministry concerned.
