BJP and other parties stage agitation

Demand restoration of land to Amarnath temple in Jammu and Kashmir

RAISING THEIR BANNER: BJP activists staging a road roko in Chennai on Wednesday, as part of their all- India agitation over Amarnath land issue.

CHENNAI: A host of organisations such as the Bharatiya Janata Party, Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh and the Hindu Munnani on Wednesday organised a State-wide agitation to press their demand for restoration of land assigned to the Amarnath temple in Jammu and Kashmir.

In Chennai, L. Ganesan and S. Thirunavukkarasar, BJP leaders, and Rama Gopalan, Hindu Munnani founder, were among those who courted arrest. They were released in the evening.

Pon. Radhakrishnan, BJP State vice-president and former union minister, took part in Nagercoil; G.K.S. Selvakumar, State secretary, in Coimbatore; Narendran, treasurer, in Krishnagiri; and M.S. Ramalingam, general secretary, in Thanjavur. V.P. Jayakumar, Hindu Munnani State secretary, also took part in the agitation.
