Gowda proud of his humble beginnings

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: He had been a Prime Minister. But, he would not forget that he began his career as a diploma engineer.

To the delight of the members of All-India Federation of Diploma Engineers, former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) president, H.D. Deve Gowda, not only agreed to be the chief patron of the organisation, but also flew down from Bangalore just to lay the foundation stone for its secretariat complex at New Ashok Nagar here on Wednesday.

Emphasising that he was proud of his “humble” beginnings, he described diploma engineers as the real architects of modern India.

“Come sun, come rain, our diploma engineers are there braving the elements of nature to ensure that development reaches the remotest corners of the country, whether it be in the form of roads, schools, primary healthcare centres or concrete houses.”

He told the gathering that he was aware that they faced a lot of problems and promised that he and his party would take them up in Parliament.
