Forum to promote research programmes inaugurated at Pudukottai

PUDUKOTTAI: Speakers at a function to mark the inaugural of the ‘Tamizh Ilakkiya Aaivu Pannai’ - an exclusive forum to promote research programmes in Tamil literature - held here recently, underlined the need for motivating the youths to take to literary analysis and comparative studies on Tamil literature. They also highlighted the importance of propagating the rich values contained in the classical language.

Vice-Chancellor of Tiruvalluvar University L. Kannan, who inaugurated the forum, said that with its huge volume of literary and devotional works authored by scholars and saints, Tamil language provided a slew of opportunities to the youths to re-discover the works.

Research into Tamil literary works would ever unravel new glories of the language, he said adding that the forum should focus on identifying and nurturing the talent of the young researchers for achieving the desired goals.

State Minister for Commercial Taxes S.N.M. Ubayatullah, in his address, said that researchers should promote propagation of love, compassion and universal brotherhood – the essence of the great works of Tamil poets. Service to humanity was the central message contained in every Tamil literary work, he said.

Forum president S. T. Tamizhmaran said that special symposium session would be held in various higher educational institutions in the district when students would submit their research papers on Tamil literature. These papers would be compiled and released every year.

Former MLA R. S. Kavithai Pithan and Honorary president of Pudukottai District Chamber of Commerce R. Xavier were among those who spoke.
