Two-week safety drive in ECoR

Special Correspondent

VISAKHAPATNAM: A two-week-long special safety drive has been ordered in the East Coast Railway to prevent occurrence of incidents like the disastrous fire in the Gautami Express.

East Coast Railway General Manager A.K. Goyal has instructed all senior officers to personally conduct at least two inspections each and ensure vigorous and surprise checks, according to a press release from Bhubaneswar on Wednesday.

Mr. Goyal himself inspected a few coaches.

The special drive was meant to prevent cases of fire on trains, which might occur due to carrying of inflammable material. Check on the passengers carrying LPG cylinders, explosive materials, crackers, smoking in trains and other activities would be carried out.

Random checks

Random checks would be made in the parcel vans and pantry cars to prevent any possible unsafe activities.
