Rasta roko staged seeking restoration of Amarnath yatra land

IN PROTEST MODE: BJP activists being arrested during a rasta roko in the city on Wednesday.

VISAKHAPATNAM: Several BJP leaders were arrested on Wednesday when they organised a ‘rasta roko,’ under the auspices of Amarnath Yatra Sangharshana Samithi, at the Jagadamba Junction demanding restoration of land for the Amarnath yatra and in the backdrop of the strife in Kashmir. Among the 29 arrested were its national executive member Kambhampati Haribabu, State BJP secretary Bandaru Rangamohana Rao, city president P.V. Narayana Rao, Ramakrishna Raju, Sangharshana Samithi convener TP Venkateswarlu and co-convener Dwibhashyam Sesha Satyanarayana, BJYM city president Challa Mahalakshmi and vice-president Sudha Prabhu.

The protestors were demanding, among other things, restoration of 100 acres of land and the reviving the Yatra Board and recalling the Jammu and Kashmir Governor.
