Kancheepuram
Decision was taken at a road safety meeting of officials held on Wednesday Plan to conduct breath analyzer tests at night in Kancheepuram district KANCHEEPURAM: Iron scrap dealers, who have put up their shops on the National Highways in Kancheepuram district, have been directed to wind up their business immediately. They have been urged to remove their shops within 24 hours, failing which the Revenue Divisional Office and police personnel would remove the shops, according to Collector Santosh K. Misra. A decision was taken at a road safety meeting of officials from Revenue, Local Bodies, Police, Regional Transport Offices, National Highway Authority and State Transport Corporation, chaired by the Collector here on Wednesday. It was claimed that parking of goods vehicles near these shops along the NH led to accidents. Similarly, stern instructions have been given to the Police Highway Patrol teams to be on the move between 6 p.m. and 6 a.m. without fail, from August 13. Meanwhile, it has also been decided to conduct breath analyzer tests during night hours at 5 places in the district. While the Deputy Superintendent of Police of Kancheepuram would be leading a team comprising personnel from police, RTO and Health Department to conduct the test on Chennai-Bangalore National Highway near Kancheepuram, similar checks will be conducted on the ECR near Kelambakkam by a team led by Mamallapuram DSP, at Paranur Toll Plaza near Chengalpattu by the team led by Chengalpattu DSP, near Madurantakam by the team led by Madurantakam DSP and near Highway Toll Plaza near Sriperumpudur by the team led by Sriperumpudur DSP. Apart from this a stern warning has been issued to the goods carrier drivers to comply with the direction issued earlier to ensure rear danger lights on their vehicles function properly. Any vehicle found without proper danger signal or danger light would be impounded by the special parties conducting checks and would be released only on the subsequent day morning, sources said.
