Special Correspondent
Owners have been asked to ensure that tail-lamps are fitted and burning properly
TAMBARAM: The Kancheepuram district administration and the Transport Department will begin checks to ensure that all heavy vehicles are fitted with tail-lamps. The drive will start in Tambaram on Friday evening.
An official note said a team of officials from Regional Transport Office, Meenambakkam (at Alandur) and Motor Vehicle Inspector’s office, Tambaram, would conduct the checks that would begin from 6 p.m.
While lorries, mini-lorries and buses on all roads in their jurisdiction would be checked, a special drive would be conducted on the Chennai Bypass Road. Owners of heavy vehicles have been asked to ensure that tail-lamps are fitted and burning properly.
Vehicles without tail-lamps would be detained overnight and released only after the lamps are fitted and on payment of fine, officials said.
Such checks would be conducted regularly during the weekends as part of measures initiated throughout Kancheepuram district to prevent accidents, the officials added.
