Chess prodigy, table tennis player to get Raja-Lakshmi award

HYDERABAD: Chess prodigy Koneru Humpy and table tennis player Achanta Sharath Kamal were on Wednesday named for the Raja-Lakshmi Award 2008. It carries a purse of Rs. 1 lakh, a citation and memento.
The duo will also receive the Dr. K.V. Rao and Dr. Jyoti Rao Award of US $2000, in association with the Telugu Fine Arts Society of New Jersey, USA.
The Raja-Lakshmi Award 2008 will be presented to Ms. Humpy and Mr. Sharath Kamal at a function at Chennai on November 19, said a press release from the Sri Raja-Lakshmi Foundation that instituted the award.
The Lakshmi-Raja Vaidika Puraskarams for 2008 will be given away to R. Venkatrama Ghanapaati, an eminent Sanskrit scholar.
