Vacant SC/ST seats at D.U. to be filled this week


Delhi University has announced that a few seats are still available for candidates belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in various under-graduate courses offered by different colleges.

The SC/ST students who have registered with the Special Cell for admission in the 2008-09 academic session and have not got admission or wish to change the course or subject they got earlier, can apply as per seats available in various colleges.

They can apply on the prescribed application form for fresh choices that can be obtained from room nos. 21 and 22 of Arts Faculty on the North Campus. Seats will be allotted on merit, said an official release.

The revised option forms will be issued and accepted on Thursday and next Monday between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.

On Monday itself, the admission list will be displayed and provisional admission slips would be issued at 2 p.m.

Counselling for non-allottees of this list will be done on the same day at 2-30 p.m.

Students can take admission and pay their fees between Tuesday and Thursday next week, the release added.

On the eve of the 39th convocation of Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, over the weekend, director Surendra Prasad shared with journalists the various awards and honours bestowed on the faculty members of his institution during the last session.

While the institute received the “Khadi and Village Industries Commission Golden Jubilee Award 2007” for excellent work done in the field of khadi and village industries, Prof. Prasad himself was conferred the “Distinguished Alumnus Award” by IIT, Kharagpur.

Prof. R.S. Agarwal of the Department of Mechanical Engineering got a commendation letter from Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for his contribution to the work of United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

The Russian Academy of Sciences conferred the degree of honoris causa on Prof. N.K. Gupta who teaches in the Department of Applied Mechanics, while the Chemistry Department’s H.M. Chawla received the “Outstanding Innovator Award (2008) Gold Medal” from Lockheed Martin for his contributions in the field of Chemistry.

Prof. M. Balakrishnan and Dr. Kolin Paul from the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and Dr. P.V.M. Rao of the Department of Mechanical Engineering were honoured with the “VASVIK Award” for their work on “Smart Cane.” This cane is a mobility aid designed for the visually impaired.

MarQuity, the marketing club of Management Development Institute, Gurgaon, organised a three-day advertising and marketing summit “Advent” this past weekend.

Some of the industry bigwigs who attended the summit included Santosh Desai, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Future Brands and Alok Marwaha, Managing Director of Kloeckner Pentaplast India Ltd.

Academy of Animation and Gaming, Noida, (AAG), has announced a tie-up with Punjab National Bank for providing educational loans to students aspiring to become animators.

“We welcome PNB to our fraternity and we see it as a value addition to our students. With its innovative ventures, AAG will try to broaden the horizons of all the animation aspirants,” said AAG Director Ajay Joshi.
