Thiruvananthapuram: Cooperation and Devaswom Minister G.Sudhakaran said here on Wednesday that Keralites’ increasing dependency on the media was a positive indicator of the level of general awareness among the public in the State. Speaking after giving away the journalism awards instituted by the Press Club, Mr. Sudhakaran said that the reach and influence of the media in the State was greater than in any other State in the country. As many as nine journalism awards, in various categories, were given away at the function presided over by Press Club president K.Sreekantan. The M.Sivaram award for the best news story was shared by K.Jayaprakash, G.Vinod and Vinod John of Malayala Manorama. T.K. Sajeev Kumar of Kerala Kaumudi bagged the Swadeshabhimani award for the best layout. B.Sreejan of The New Indian Express bagged the V.Krishnamoorthy award for the best news story in English daily. The K.Madhavankutty award for the best feature in English daily was won by Reema Narendran of The New Indian Express. Sujith Nair of Malayala Manorama bagged the K.C. Sebastian award for political reporting. Kerala Kaumudi photographer Jithesh Damodar won the news photography award while K.Unnikrishnan of Mathrubhumi, Kozhikode, won the best cartoon award. P.R. Rajesh of Mangalam bagged the Minerva Krishnankutty award for the best human interest story. Press Club secretary M.V. Gireeshkumar and treasurer Biju Chandrashekhar were present.
