Bharatiya Janata Party cadres arrested in southern districts

Want Centre to recall Jammu and Kashmir Govnernor for failure to resolve land row

Tuticorin: A total of 71 Bharatiya Janata Party members were arrested for creating road blockade and disrupting traffic while conducting an agitation to press their charter of demands here on Wednesday.

They demanded that the Amarnath Shrine Board Act under which the board was established should be implemented in its letter and spirit.

Similarly, relevant decisions of Jammu and Kashmir High Court on the Amarnath issue should be followed.

They condemned the Jammu and Kashmir government’s decision to cancel the order of transfer of about 40 hectares of forest land to Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board.

The BJP men wanted the Centre to recall the Jammu and Kashmir Govnernor for his failure to resolve the issue.

The district general secretaries of the party, A Santana Kumar, M Balaji, D Raja, and the state observer of the party, M. R. Kanagaraj, were among the prominent leaders who courted arrest during the agitation.

Tirunelveli

A total of 157 BJP cadres including nine women courted arrest in the district when they attempted to block traffic in protest against the Amarnath land row. In the protest held at Tirunelveli Junction, 91 persons including a women, were arrested while 66 persons including eight women were detained in the protest held at Tenkasi.

They were released in the evening.

Nagercoil

The police arrested around 800 activists belonging to the BJP in Nagercoil and Marthandam on Wednesday.

The State organizer of the RSS, Parameswaram, led the agitation at Vadaserry junction in Nagercoil and the district secretary of the Hindu Munnani, Asirwatham, at Marthandam.

The former Union Minister, Pon.Radhakrishnan, said that the BJP was committed to ensure the welfare of Hindus.

As the State government was least bothered about the welfare of the majority community, it was the bounden duty of the BJP to ensure its welfare.

Tension prevailed at Vadaserry between the police and the activities when the latter refused to get into the police van.

They insisted on taking out a procession through the streets of Vadaserry junction to the police station.
