This Day That Age
Prime Minister Nehru, who reviewed the Middle East situation in the Lok Sabha on August 14, stated that the complete withdrawal of all foreign forces and the recognition of the emergence of Arab nationalism were indispensable for the establishment of peace in the area. Mr. Nehru dwelt at some length on the three main problems of the region, namely, Arab nationalism, oil and Israel and said these must be tackled satisfactorily with the co-operation of all parties if normal conditions were to be restored on a permanent basis. At the same time the tendency to treat the Middle East countries as something like “tender infants” requiring guardianship and patronage was bound to be resented to by the Arabs.
