37,195 seats vacant for Plus One courses Students can seek higher options THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Education Minister M.A. Baby said here on Thursday that the remaining seats for Plus One courses would be filled through supplementary allotments by the end of this month. The Minister said that 37,195 seats were remaining vacant for the Plus One courses. Allotments had been made for 99.65 per cent of the seats available under the single window system. However, many students did not join the courses either because they had got admissions under the management quota or joined vocational or other courses. Mr. Baby said that students, who had already got admissions to Plus One courses, would have the opportunity to seek higher options during the supplementary allotments. Seats available in each higher secondary school would be notified on the website and also on the notice boards of the schools. He said that the number of seats available in various districts ranged from 792 in Wayanad district to 4,948 in Malappuram district. He noted that about 1.21 lakh seats fell under the management quota which was outside the single window system. Besides, 1.96 lakh seats were available in the vocational and technical streams (vocational higher secondary schools, polytechnics, industrial training institutes and centres). It would be possible to fill all the seats that had fallen vacant through the supplementary allotments. The last date for enrolling with the open school would be extended pending completion of the supplementary allotments. He said that the system would be simplified from next year and the admissions would be completed in June itself. The data about this year’s allocations would be made available on the Web for guidance of students and parents next year. The data would provide them an idea about their chances for joining various schools and courses.
