RIL oil production from D6 well by year-end

Staff Reporter

Kakinada: Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) is set to commence production of oil and natural gas from its deep-water block (D6) in Krishna-Godavari basin by the end of 2008. A Floating Production, Storage and Offloading (FPSO) vessel has already been deployed for the purpose, according to company sources.

The connection of FPSO vessel to oil and gas wells is likely to be completed in a month.

The D1 and D3 gas fields have a peak production of 80,000 million cubic meters per day and the D26 field can produce 40,000 barrels of crude oil per day.

The depth of the gas field ranges from 1,200 to 1,500 meters and RIL is one of the few companies in the world that possesses the technological expertise to extract oil and gas from such depths. It is going to be the first deep water oil production by any company in the country. The D6 block was the world’s biggest gas discovery in the year 2002 and RIL has more exploratory assets sanctioned under the subsequent phases of New Exploration and Licensing Policy of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

Work on the 1,440-km East West gas pipeline linking Kakinada to Bharuch (Gujarat) has reached the stage of hydro testing at important points.

Construction of the onshore terminal at Gadimoga in Tallarevu mandal of East Godavari district and a Control and Raiser Platform in the sea are nearing completion.
