NEW PREMISE: T. Devender Goud unveils the Nava Telangana Praja Party flag at the new party office in Hyderabad on Thursday.

HYDERABAD: Nava Telangana Praja Party president T. Devender Goud on Thursday said a series of meetings would be held between August 15 and 19 to review membership enrolment.

At the inauguration of the party’s new State office, he said they had slightly over 12,000 applications from people who had pledged to work actively with the sole aim of achieving Statehood for Telangana. Elections were secondary, he said, adding that the focus was on improving awareness among people, bringing them together and achieving the goal of a separate Telangana.

Senior leader, E. Peddi Reddy said the party’s executive and its policies would be announced at a public meeting on August 27. Earlier, Fathima Begum, who had lost her 19-year-old son, Shaik Fakir in the separate Telangana agitation in 1969 that turned violent, inaugurated the party’s State office by cutting the ribbon. Mr. Goud felicitated her and a dozen others who had lost one member of their families in the agitation. The gathering in the packed meeting hall applauded when she said that when Telangana was achieved, she would feel as if she had got her son back.

Among those who also spoke were MLC Chukka Ramaiah, freedom fighters Bhoopathi Krishnamurthy, Konda Lakshman Bapuji, former Telangana NGOs leader B. Swaminatham and Narra Ravikumar.
