Full-scale generation at Srisailam ends power cuts

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Hydro-electric stations of the Srisailam project are being operated at their full capacity (1670 MW) with a heavy inflow of 5 lakh cusecs reaching the dam from the upper reaches of the Krishna river and from Tungabhadra project at Hospet.

Using the peak generation made at Srisailam, the APTransco ended the power cut for the time being in Hyderabad and other urban areas in the State and reduced the duration of the cut in villages on Thursday. This became possible in spite of the backing down of 2,652 MW of installed capacity at various stations following technical problems. The Transco wants to continue the full-scale operation at Srisailam as long as the inflows are high. And further inflows are likely to join Srisailam as there are heavy rains in the catchment areas of both Krishna and Tungabhadra.
