Film: Arjun (Kannada) Director: Shahuraj Shinde Cast: Darshan, Ananth Nag, Sharat Lohitashwa, Suman, Sadhu Kokila, Satyajit, Meera Chopra and Urvashi Arjun is yet another Darshan film with the extraordinary message that the integrity of the police can be assured only if youth from affluent families joined its ranks and when subordinates are either meek persons or jokers. A multimillionaire father (Ananth Nag), who suffers from leukaemia, encourages his son to join the police force. Son Arjun’s (Darshan) heroic escapades in translating his father’s dream into a reality are the essence of the plot. First-time director Shahuraj Shinde pulls out all stops to fit the formula to please Darshan fans, though at the cost of characterisation. He attempts to cram too much: social commentary, family melodrama, the works. There is not even a passing nod to reason, logic, cogent continuity and a basic acknowledgement of the viewer’s intelligence. He does all of it by mixing and mashing scenes and situations from many hit films. K.N. VENKATASUBBA RAO
