Yuva Morcha blames Health Minister for fever outbreak

Kasaragod: The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) workers on Friday staged a demonstration close to the venue of a function attended by Health Minister P.K. Sreemathy at Mangalpady, near Manjeswaram.

They were protesting the State government’s “failure” in tackling the alarming increase in viral fever and chikungunya cases in the district, the police said.

About 50 BJYM workers who participated in the demonstration blamed the Health Minister of not taking effective steps to address the outbreak of fever in the district and failing to visit the affected localities to review the situation. The activists staged the demonstration close to the primary health centre at Mangalpady where she had come to inaugurate a new building for a hospital.

The police said the BJYM activists had planned to prevent the Minister from attending the function. However, heavy police presence kept them at bay. The BJYM workers later courted arrest, they said. — PTI
