Fervour marks schools’ celebrations

PUDUCHERRY: Various government agencies and schools organised functions to celebrate the 61st anniversary of Independence Day.

A release issued by Chief Superintendent of Jails R. Venkatasubramanian said the Inspector-General of Police (in-charge of prisons) hoisted the national flag. On the occasion, prisoners were given special lunch and also provided sweets, the release said. Lions Club Mango City, Kariakal gifted a DVD player and food packets to the inmates of the Special Sub Jail there on the occasion of the Independence Day.

At the Central Excise Commissionerate Independence Day function, Commissioner of Central Excise Sreela Gosh hoisted the national flag and addressed the officers.

The Sampourna Vidhyalaya, Achariya Arts and Science College organised a function to celebrate the Independence Day. Former Minister Thenee Jayakumar hoisted the national flag and addressed the students.
