Relief for farmers by month-end: Minister

Loan waiver benefited over 1.39 lakh farmers in Kadapa district


KADAPA: The State government was taking steps to disburse relief of Rs. 5,000 each to farmers who were not covered by the loan waiver by August end, Minister for Medical Education Galla Aruna Kumari said on Friday.

In her 62nd Independence Day address after hoisting the national flag at Kadapa police parade grounds, she described the loan waiver as a historic decision to bail out debt-ridden farmers. Loans worth Rs. 295.93 crore were waived benefiting 1,39,060 farmers in Kadapa district. It included waiver of Rs. 243.29 crore towards one-time settlement of 1,11,574 small and marginal farmers and Rs. 52.64 crore of 27,486 ryots, she said.

Jalayagnam

As part of Jalayagnam, the government allocated Rs. 423.72 crore for Telugu Ganga project to irrigate 1,87,734 acres and 13.30 tmcft of water was stored in Brahmamsagar reservoir to provide irrigation water to 60,000 acres, she said. In order to irrigate 1.55 lakh acres under Galeru Nagari Sujala Sravanthi project, Rs. 631.61 crore was allotted for the first phase. Gandikota, Vamikonda and Sarvarajasagar reservoirs and Galeru Nagari main canal works were progressing and Rs. 2189.26 crores was allotted for the second phase.

The Minister gave away assets worth Rs. 39.25 crore among 1,36,418 beneficiaries.

She also gave away LPG connections, scholarships, incentives to inter-caste couples, tricycles, computers, wheelchairs, hearing aids, spectacles, revolving fund and motors. She gave away merit certificates among 241 officials.
