Action plan ready to tackle floods in Haveri: Udasi

‘Government has plans to set up

10 more airstrips’


HAVERI: District in-charge Minister C.M. Udasi has said that officials have been instructed to take steps to tackle the problems arising out of floods in the district.

Addressing presspersons here on Friday after participating in the Independence Day celebrations, the Minister said that two gruel centres had been set up in the district for the people affected by rain and floods.

He said that an action plan had been prepared for tackling floods in the district. The officials had been authorised to open gruel centres wherever necessary. He would visit some of the affected villages in the district soon.

The flood situation in the district was not alarming. However, the officials had been asked to be alert and available in their place of work. Control rooms had been set up in taluk headquarters, he said. The Minister said that the Government had plans to develop airstrips in 10 districts in addition to 12 districts where the facility was available. Steps were being taken in this regard. During this financial year, 265 km of roads would be developed in the district and Rs. 15 crore would be spent on developing Kaginele, Shishuvinahaa and the house of V.K. Gokak.

Earlier, the Minister hoisted the tricolour at the Municipal High School Ground and took the salute from various marching contingents of schoolchildren, police and the Home Guards.

Addressing the gathering, he urged the people to understand the importance of freedom and acknowledge the sacrifices behind it.
