PUDUCHERRY: Members of the Federation of Village Panchayat Presidents Association on Monday appealed to the government to consider the report submitted by the Ramanathan Committee on devolution of powers to village panchayats in the Union Territory. Addressing a press conference here, joint convener of the Federation G. A Jagannathan said the Committee appointed by the government to suggest ways to devolve more powers to the village panchayats had submitted its report in November last. Though 10 months had passed since the report was submitted, the government was yet to consider the Committee’s recommendation, Mr. Jagannathan said. The Federation would launch an agitation if the government failed to address the issue on a priority basis.
