‘Centre adopting anti-Kerala stance’

Staff Reporter

State to spend Rs.3 crore on road repair

ALAPPUZHA: Food and Civil Supplies Minister C. Divakaran has said that the Centre was adopting an anti-Kerala stance in almost every issue. Speaking after reviewing the Independence Day parade at the Recreation Ground here on Friday, Mr. Divakaran said the slash in rice quota to the State was totally uncalled for. The State was generating commendable income by exporting pulses and grains to other countries.

However, the Centre was not keeping this in mind and had adopted an unjustified approach to the State in the matter of helping it attain food security, he said.

In a separate function, Coir and Cooperation Minister G. Sudhakaran said the government had sanctioned Rs.3 crore for repair work on the 11km-stretch of the National Highway-47 from Thookukulam to Karur in the Ambalapuzha Assembly constituency. Work on the stretch would begin as soon as the climate turned favourable. The amount was sanctioned after Mr. Sudhakaran wrote letters to Public Works Minister Mons Joseph and to National Highway of India authorities, pointing out that the poor condition of the road was leading to fatal road accidents.

District Collector V.K. Balakrishnan, legislators, MPs and other dignitaries attended the colourful parade and the Independence Day functions organised in various places of the district on Friday.
