KOTHAGUDEM: Coal production from the underground mines of the Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) was only 87 per cent of the set targets during the first four months of the financial year and the pace of mining operations should be stepped up, according to the company Chairman and Managing Director, S. Narsing Rao here on Friday. Hoisting the national flag as part of the Independence Day celebrations at the SCCL headquarters in the coal town, he said that the future of the company depended on the success of the operations in the underground mines. Every employee was expected to give his best for achieving the targets. Optimum utilisation of heavy earth-moving machinery was stressed. Appreciating the services of the rescue teams, he said safety and welfare of the employees were of paramount importance. He said nearly 70 per cent of the electricity generation was coal-based and nearly 1,800 million tonnes were required for the purpose. Currently, generation of electricity was of the order of 1.45 lakh MW and the demand was on the rise . The Government had plans to achieve a generation capacity of 8 lakh MW, he said.
The chairman congratulated the employees as well as the trade unions for continuing the mining operations without even a strike for the past 20 months. SCCL Director (Operations) J. V. Dattatreyulu, Director (Finance) E. V. Krishna Reddy, Director (Planning and Projects ) D. L. R . Prasad , Director (Personnel, Administration and Welfare L. Sashidhar were among those who took part.
