East Delhi residents facing power cuts for hours “Maintenance teams prompt to answer calls" NEW DELHI: Power distribution company BSES has absolved itself of any responsibility for the series of unscheduled power cuts that occurred in several parts of East Delhi in the past few days. According to the company, the outages that hit Mayur Vihar, Preet Vihar, Laxmi Nagar and adjoining areas were caused by “large-scale” construction and development activities being carried out by civic agencies including the Public Works Department. Residents of East Delhi have been coping with unscheduled power cuts that in some cases lasted for over a few hours. Speaking out in defence of its service, the company in a statement said: “People are generally under the impression that these unscheduled power cuts are due to BSES related factors. The truth is completely different. These outages are not on account of any load-shedding undertaken by BSES, but by the developmental activities being carried out by certain external agencies.” Blaming the ongoing construction work for disturbing cables and other infrastructure, the statement further said: “To keep pace with Delhi’s exponential growth, agencies like the Delhi Metro, Delhi Development Authority and the PWD are engaged in large-scale construction and developmental activities. And at times, these construction activities damage BSES’ cables and distribution network, leading to unscheduled outages – causing inconvenience to its customers.” “Though BSES regrets the inconvenience caused to its customers, it is pertinent to mention that BSES’ operation and maintenance teams are on a high alert and promptly reach the venue to rectify the problem on priority,” it said. Complaining that their teams are often subjected to public anger, the company has also urged consumers to allow the teams to carry out fault finding exercises that are necessary for carrying out rectification of slip-ups. “In the event of such unscheduled outages, customers should cooperate with BSES and allow its teams to work and rectify the fault on priority,” said BSES Chief Executive Officer Arun Kanchan.
