Staff Reporter

Plan to extend fete to medium-level cities

Bumper prize is

5 kg of gold

Lucky coupon for purchase of Rs.1,000

Kozhikode: Industries Minister Elamaram Karim has said that the Grand Kerala Shopping Festival is essentially indented to promote products and services exclusively produced and offered by the State.

He was inaugurating the district-level registration for the festival at the Collectorate conference hall here on Friday.

“We should be able to slowly fashion a Kerala-centric business and trade fare that attracts the world to our State for all the right reason,” he said. Last year’s festival had contributed greatly to the State exchequer by way of sales tax. “That motivated the government to organise the festival this year in more systematic way.”

Plans were afoot to expand the festival to the “medium-level cities” of the State as well, Mr. Karim said.

The Minister inaugurated the registration by handing over the ‘golden partnership’ of Rs.25,000 to Kadavu Resort managing director N.K. Muhammed. Several small and big business firms as well as wholesalers and retailers registered for the festival on the first day.

The festival is scheduled to start on December 1. Consumer durable outlets, lifestyle stores, jewelleries, cloth marts, hotels and restaurants, Ayurveda resorts and automobiles will participate in the festival.

Rupees 25,000 is the registration fee for participating in the festival as ‘Gold Partner’, while Rs.5,000 is for ‘silver partner’ and Rs.1,000 for partners in the general category.

Twenty-five sovereigns of gold will be given away as first prizes to customers every week. Five sovereigns a week is the second prize. Third prize will be one sovereign each. Five kilograms of gold will be given as the mega bumper price. Scratch-and-win lucky coupon also will be given for each purchase of Rs.1,000 to customers.

The firms participating in the festival also will be given prizes in gold.

A. Pradeepkumar, MLA, presided over the function. District Collector A. Jayathilak and representatives of different trade, commercial and industrial firms talked on the occasion.
