KSCA invitation tournament from tomorrow

BANGALORE: Twelve teams, divided into four groups, will vie for honours in this edition of the KSCA all-India invitation cricket tournament which will get underway at five grounds here on Sunday.

The first set of matches will be played on August 17 and 18 and the final is slated to be held at RSI grounds on August 31 and September 1. The 100-overs-a-side tournament will be decided on a bowl-out in case of a no result.

KSCA XI, the reigning champion, and KSCA Presidents XI, the runner-up head Group ‘A’ and ‘B’ respectively, but Group ‘C’ that looks a tough one with Tamil Nadu CA, Hyderabad CA and Air India locked together for the two berths to the knock-out stage. Group ‘D’ looks a little lop-sided with Punjab CA and ONGC likely to progress unless the Sudhindra Shinde-led KSCA Colts cause an upset or two. C. Raghu, the State ODI team captain, leads a strong KSCA XI team, while Yere Goud has been bestowed with the responsibility of seeing the KSCA Presidents XI through.

The top two teams from each group advance into the knock-out stage to be played on August 25 and. The semifinals are slated for August 28 and 29 at the KSCA and IAF grounds.

JIRS and NRA (T) will be the two other grounds in use during the tournament.

The groupings: Group ‘A’: KSCA XI, Gujarat CA, Kerala CA; Group ‘B’: KSCA Presidents XI, Uttar Pradesh CA, Dr. D.Y. Patil Cricket Academy; Group ‘C’: TNCA, Hyderabad CA, Air India; Group ‘D’: Punjab CA, ONGC, KSCA Colts.

Mount Carmel wins

Mount Carmel College claimed the title in the Bangalore University inter-PU Collegiate volleyball tournament in Bangalore with a 21-13, 21-9 victory over St. Anne’s College (Ramamurthy Nagar). Earlier in the semifinals, Mount Carmel beat Indian Academy PU College 21-8, 21-3.
