Bharatanatyam dancer Jyotsna performing at a cultural event. BHUBANESWAR: As a tribute to the late legendary danseuse Sanjukta Panigrahi, the four-decade-old Bhubaneswar Music Circle (BMC) would host Sanjukta Panigrahi Memorial dance festival at Rabindra Mandap here on Sunday evening. BMC general secretary Khirod Patnaik said that Sanjukta was synonymous with Odissi and inspired generations of aspiring dancers. Besides she was intimately associated with Bhubaneswar Music Circle as an executive body member and used to take keen interest in all its activities. Since her demise in 1997, BMC has been hosting an annual dance concert in the city as a homage, Mr. Patnaik said and added that so far eminent dancers like Aruna Mohanty, Sujata Mohapatra (both from Odissi), Bimbavati Devi (Manipuri), and Yamini Reddy (Kuchipudi) have performed to pay their tribute to the legend. The event this year features three young and accomplished artistes of the country. They are Bharatnatyam dancer Jyotsna Jagannathan from Chennai who is a doctor by profession, Kathak dancer Monisa Nayak from New Delhi –who is a member of the repertoire of the Kathak Kendra, New Delhi and city-based Odissi dancer Janhabi Behera from the Orissa Dance Academy. The trio would commence their recital with a combined invocatory piece followed by their individual performances and would conclude with group presentation, it was learnt.
