Varanasi: The Secretary General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) Supachai Panitchpakdi on Friday said that the global body will support the Geographical Indicators (GI) registration of ‘Bhadohi carpet’ and ‘Banarasi sari’. Supachai, who was here to attend a conference on ‘Export Potential of Bhadohi Carpets: Pre and Post GI Registration’, said ,“In our 12th conference held last April in Accra in Ghana, the Accra accord was adopted which urges us to assist in the ‘qualitative’ integration of developing countries into the global economy through addressing the opportunities and challenges of globalisation for development.”
