Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday asked the Union government to bear the additional financial burden to be borne by the States in the wake of the Centre’s decision to implement the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission. Seeking cooperation from all the opposition parties, Mr. Kumar said: “Since the resources of the States are limited, there will be too much of a financial burden for us to bear on our own as thousands of crore will accrue once the pay revision comes into effect.” “While the Central government employees will celebrate the hike, the employees of States will get discouraged if the States fail to revise their pay on the lines of the recommendations of the 6th pay commission,” Mr. Kumar, who was addressing the crowd after unfurling the tricolour at Gandhi Maidan, said. “I appeal to all political parties in Bihar to take up the matter with the Centre in the right earnest.” He sought the help of all political parties to make a combined claim for getting a larger share of the national resources from the 13th Finance Commission. He expressed happiness over Bihar being able to raise its plan size from Rs.1500 crore (during the RJD regime) to Rs.13,500 crore for the current fiscal (2008-09). PTI
