Bhopal: The noted film star and former Congress MP from the national capital Rajesh Khanna said here on Friday that he is more interested in getting into the Rajya Sabha instead of contesting the Lok Sabha polls.

“Congress president Sonia Gandhi asked me to contest Lok Sabha polls, but I feel it is not meant for people like me. Since I am an actor, I can contribute in a significant manner in the Rajya Sabha,” Khanna told reporters when asked whether he is interested in entering the Lower House of the Parliament.

He arrived here to take part in a rally organised by the Congress. Madhya Pradesh Congress Committee president Suresh Pachouri, MLA Arif Aqueel and Bhopal Mayor Sunil Sood were also present on the occasion.

Recalling his experience in politics after becoming an MP from Delhi on the request of then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, he said he feels that he can do justice to his job in Rajya Sabha.

He said he has told Ms. Gandhi that he would not be able to contest the Lok Sabha polls as he can’t take part in active politics .

He said he was always a Congressman and said the BJP was the worst party in the country as it “divides people.”

On the Amarnath land row, he said the land in question was given for religious purpose and therefore it should be given to the people.
