Karate boy makes it big

Correspondent

KORAPUT: Ansuman Behera , a 14-year-old boy and the little champ in the field of martial art from Jeypore in Koraput district, has been selected to participate in the World Junior Martial Art Meet, which is scheduled to be held in South Korea from September 26.

Ansuman has earlier participated in various sports meets at the State and national-level apart from taking part in the martial art meet organised by Nepal Cricket Association at Kathmandu in 2007, his coaches Gyanendra Mahanty and Kashinath Nayak added.

Speaking to ‘The Hindu’ , Ansuman said that even though many children in the region were practicing Karate, there were very few who take up Muaythai the form of the art he was the champion and he was fortunate to have the coaches for the art, which was also rare in the State.

While he had to practise for more than six hours daily for keeping the standards at a higher level, it had never hampered his studies.
