Plea against Mysore varsity dismissed

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Thursday dismissed two petitions challenging the closure of the outreach programme (correspondence course) of University of Mysore in Maharashtra and Rajasthan.

The petitioners, Youth and Child Development Foundation of Rajasthan and Institution of Technical and Management of Mumbai had challenged a notification by Mysore University cancelling the memorandum entered into between the university and the two institutions on outreach programmes. The institutions said after they signed the (MoU) with the varsity, students had enrolled in the course. However, the university unilaterally decided to cancel the MoU. The State Government defended the cancellation of MoU, saying that the outreach programme was meant only for NRI students and not Indian students. Justice Huluvadi G. Ramesh dismissed the petitions.
