‘Social, economic problems have to be addressed’

Correspondent

Chamarajanagar: Minister for Food and Civil Supplies H. Halappa, who is also Chamarajanagar district in-charge, hoisted the tri colour at Dr. Ambedkar Stadium here on Friday on the occasion of Independence Day.

Addressing a gathering, he said it was time to remember the sacrifices of freedom fighters.

Though India was a model to other countries in the fields of science and technology, space science, atomic science, information technology, bioscience and food security, we have to find solutions to social, religious and economic problems, Mr. Halappa said.

He said the State Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa, had framed pro-people programmes and they would be implemented at the earliest.

Later, Mr. Halappa listed out various programmes announced by Mr. Yeddyurappa in the State Budget. He said a blueprint for “Karnataka 2020” was being prepared to ensure all-round development of the State. The Minister said the Government was committed to ensuring the welfare of poor people by ushering in development in all sectors.

Mr. Halappa said that efforts were on to develop the backward district of Chamarajanagar. Steps were being taken to tap the tourism potential of the district. He called upon people to render honest service for the progress of the nation.

Later, schoolchildren presented cultural programmes. Freedom fighter Kulagana Siddappa was felicitated on the occasion.

In-charge Deputy Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of zilla panchayat Jayaram and Superintendent of Police Sridhar were among those present.
