258 screened at medical camp

HELP: S. Regupathy, Union Minister of State for Environment and Forests, giving away a loan to a physically-challenged woman at A. Mathur village near Pudukottai.
PUDUKOTTAI: A total of 258 persons were screened at a free health camp organised jointly by the Rotary Club of Pudukottai and Team Speciality Hospital at A. Mathur village near here on Sunday. Five persons with eye ailments were referred for surgery.
Five persons, including three students and two physically-challenged women, got loans sanctioned by the Indian Bank on the occasion.
Bank senior manager M. Muthuraman, who is also a member of the Club, said that each of the physically-challenged women got Rs.25,000 for starting a provisional store while the students got educational loans of Rs. 2 lakh.
Union Minister of State for Environment and Forests S. Regupathy inaugurated the camp and distributed the loans to the beneficiaries.
Managing Director of Team Speciality Hospital, K.H. Saleem said the camp aimed at benefiting the villagers.
Club president P. Karuppiah and treasurer S.V.S. Jayakumar said that the Club identified the village for the camp as a large number of devotees visited the Lord Muruga temple.
