20 KSG members arrested in Karaikal
KARAIKAL: About 25 persons including 20 members of the Karaikal Struggle Group that is demanding separate union territory status for Karaikal region in the Union Territory of Puducherry, were arrested on Friday when they attempted to picket the venue of the Government’s Independence Day celebration here demanding the Puducherry Government and the Centre to restore the name of a school after veteran freedom fighter S. Ramasamy Iyer .
R. Ramaseenivasan, veteran freedom fighter and a founder member of KSG, blamed the State Government for ignoring the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters for the cause of liberation.
S. P. Selvashanmugham, convenor of KSG,claimed that the people of the region were denied the fruits of independence for the past five decades.
