Sonia confident, PM cautious
K.V. Prasad
NEW DELHI: Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Friday sought to convey her party’s confidence of being voted back to power in the next general elections and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh remaining in the saddle.
“Why not? Certainly,” was her response to questions from journalists whether Dr. Singh would unfurl the tricolour on Independence Day next year.
This was in stark contrast to the cautious reply, “hopefully,” made by the Prime Minister.
In a way, Ms. Gandhi’s reply puts at rest speculation whether the party would project Dr. Singh as the prime ministerial candidate ahead of the elections.
