Gangster held for robbery

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: A man who was allegedly part of a gang involved in a robbery case was arrested on Friday.

Police said G.Muthukumar of Tondiarpet, employed in a private firm, had lodged a complaint that a gang relieved him of his 1.5-sovereign gold chain, gold ring, mobile phone and some cash near the Kodambakkam Railway Station on the night of August 8 while he was returning home from work.

A special team which was formed to investigate the case arrested M.Vivek (22) of Kudisaimedu near Ramakrishnapuram, T.Nagar.

The arrested man confessed that he and two of his associates had robbed Muthukumar.

They had mortgaged the jewellery in a pawn shop and sold the mobile phone to an autorickshaw driver.

Police recovered the valuables. A search is on to nab two others involved in the crime.

The accused was produced in a city court and remanded to judicial custody.
