Cultural show by students add colour to I-Day fete


MACHILIPATNAM: The government has taken up an ambitious project to modernise Krishna delta at a cost of Rs.4,573 crores, out of which works in Krishna district have been divided into 21 packages of a total value of Rs.2,180 crores, said Municipal Administration Minister Koneru Ranga Rao.

Delivering the Independence Day address after unfurling the national flag at Police Parade Grounds on Friday, Mr. Ranga Rao said that improvement of drains in the delta had been taken up by spending Rs.57 crores. As many as 13 lakh acres of ayacut would be stabilised in the district through Indira Sagar (Polavaram) and K.L. Rao (Pulichintala) projects. The debt relief scheme would benefit 2.78 lakh small and marginal farmers in the district to the extent of Rs.452 crores, he said.

The Minister listed several other schemes and programmes taken up by the State government and how they benefited the people of Krishna district. He said the district had been given several prestigious institutions like the IIIT campus at Nuzvid.

The Minister received the guard of honour from police, armed guards and NCC cadets after unfurling the flag. He was accompanied by Collector Shailaja Ramaiyer and SP D. Ramakrishnaiah. Cultural programmes performed by students added colour to the I-Day celebrations. District Judge S. Ravi Kumar, ZP Chairperson K. Nageswara Rao, Joint Collector G. Ramanarayana Reddy and others were present.
