CHENNAI: Backward Classes Welfare Minister K.K.S.S.R. Ramachandran has instructed officials to provide all concessions to students studying in institutions meant for the backward and most backward classes and minorities in the beginning of the academic year itself.

Reviewing the progress of welfare projects on Thursday, he said Rs. 981 lakh had been given in loan to 4270 beneficiaries through the Tamil Nadu Backward Classes Economic Development Corporation. This year’s allotment of Rs. 30 crore must also be disbursed completely.

Mr. Ramachandran also instructed officials to ensure that the vacancies in the hostels run by the Department were filled and to procure land for construction of hostel buildings and hand them over to the Public Works Department.

Secretary N. Vasudevan, Backward Classes Welfare Commissioner P. Shanmugam and Most Backward Classes and Minorities Commissioner P. Annamalai were present.
