Innings win for Anantapur

VIJAYAWADA: Anantpaur defeated Chittoor by an innings and 29 runs in the ACA South Zone under-16 inter-district cricket tournament at Anantapur on Friday.

The Kadapa-Kurnool tie ended in a draw.

The scores: Anantapur 269 in 86.5 overs (K. Swamy 86, Irfan Basha 72, Massur seven for 80) bt Chittoor 143 in 62.2 overs (Siva Ram 49, M. Wasim five for 33, Irfan Basha three for 33) and 97 in 45 overs (Surya 41, K Rajesh five for 22); Kadapa 193 and 124 in 52.3 overs (Vamsi 59, Vinod four for 21, Sharan four for 37) drew with 124 in 61 overs (Vikram 40, S. Kumar four for 20, Jagadish three for 28) and 21 for four in eight overs.

Easy for Nandagopal

Third seed Nandagopal of Guntur entered the second round, defeating Sriteja of Kurnool 21-16, 21-12 in the State junior badminton tournament at Khammam on Friday.

Karthik triumphs

Vijayawada’s K.V.K. Karthik won the district open rapid chess tournament, organised by Global Chess Academy, by garnering 4.5 out of a possible five points.

N.B.K. Krishna and Ravi took the second and third places respectively.

In the age-group competitions, Rishik (u-7), Varna (u-9), Yeswanth Sai (u-11), Mohan Krishna (u-12) and Rishi Challa (u-13) were honoured with special prizes.
