Unit to go on stream in the third quarter next year Will make light vehicle brake and friction components CHENNAI: Nasdaq listed Federal-Mogul Corporation is planning to set up a new facility here to manufacture friction components for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and aftermarket customers . The plant is scheduled to go on stream in the third quarter of the calendar 2009, says a company release. The upcoming facility will make light vehicle brake and friction components as well as commercial vehicle and railway friction products. Six facilities in IndiaFederal-Mogul has now six facilities in India — one facility each in Bangalore, Khandsa, Parwanoo and Patiala and two units at Bhiwadi — and makes products such as pistons, rings, liners, bearings, ignition and sintered products. Its Ferodo® friction products have been manufactured in India since 1995. The company’s wholly-owned subsidiary in India recently signed a memorandum of understanding with New Chennai Township Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of MARG, to buy 10 acres on which it will build the 6,000-sq. metre facility. The plant will be built in three phases and will eventually total 15,000 sq. metres and create about 500 jobs. “This new greenfield facility is another example of Federal-Mogul’s commitment to grow its manufacturing footprint in India,” the release quoted Federal-Mogul President and Chief Executive Officer, Jose Maria Alapont, as saying.
