Thiruvananthapuram: The Zam Zam Association based at Vallakadavu here has urged the government and the City Corporation to take urgent steps to streamline the functioning of the Government Siddha Hospital at Eenchakkal, the only one of its kind in the State. Association secretary E. Noushad said here on Friday that medicines worth Rs.3 lakh purchased during the last financial year could not be distributed to patients owing to the negligence of the authorities. The 200-odd patients who visit the hospital daily have to put up with the lack of facilities, he said. Mr. Noushad said that a raid carried out by the vigilance unit of the Department of Indian Systems of Medicine had unearthed irregularities at the hospital. “Following the raid, the vigilance officials had directed the hospital authorities to distribute medicines to the patients. But except for the ‘kashayam,’ no other medicines are being supplied. There are also allegations that the hospital authorities are trying to smuggle out medicines.”
