One of the accused is a relative of the victim BANGALORE: The Yelahanka New Town police arrested two persons on the charge of murdering a woman. One of the two is a relative of the victim. The police gave the name of the accused as Rami Reddy (38) and Anand (26), residents of Bannerghatta. The accused allegedly strangled Laxmi (36), wife of Linga Reddy, a Railway employee, at her residence in Yelahanka New Town on Thursday. Linga Reddy was at his workplace and the couple’s children at school when Laxmi was murdered. Deputy Commissioner of Police (North-East) Basavaraj Malagatti told The Hindu that Rami Reddy, son of Linga Reddy’s maternal aunt, visited the house on Wednesday and had had lunch there. As families customarily take out their jewellery for the Varamahalakshmi festival, the accused hatched a robbery plan, he said. Rami Reddy lived with Anand, a security guard. Both came to Linga Reddy’s residence on Thursday after calling the latter and confirming that he was in his office. After eating snacks offered by Laxmi, they strangled her when she went to the kitchen to fetch water, Mr. Malagatti said. Neighbours alerted the police about the visit of Rami Reddy, a native of Gouribidanur. Mr. Malagatti said all the valuables taken away by the accused had been recovered. They would be produced before the jurisdictional magistrate on Saturday, he added.
