Belgaum boy claims two records

SLITHER LIKE A SNAKE: Seven-year-old Rohan Kokane in action in Belgaum on Friday.

Belgaum: The seven-year-old limbo skater from Belgaum city, Rohan Kokane, has staked claim to world record by comfortably skating under a bar with a clearance height of 6.5” in backward direction and 5.7” in forward direction in an auditorium in the city on Friday. These are also his personal records.

The event coincided with the 62nd Independence Day celebrations.

After a few rehearsals, a confident and cool Rohan took a long breath and came clean from under the bar to a thundering applause from the huge gathering at the sprawling Mahantesh Samudaya Bhavan. Mayor Prashanta Budavi congratulated him.

Rohan’s coach Suryakant Hindalgekar at Belgaum Roller Skating Academy claimed that Rohan created new world records indeed. All the evidences such as videos and other data about the event recorded would be sent to the Guinness World Records, the Limca Book of Records and the World Records Academy.

Son of Ajit Dattare Kokane and Anupama Ajit Kokane, he comes from a poor family. The achievements came to him on his birthday (August 15). Rohan is a Class II student of St. Xavier’s School in the city. He attributed his success and achievements to his parents and coach Suryakant Hindalgekar, V. Vesne, Shashi Pol, Umesh Kalghatagi and Vinay Sirekar at Belgaum Roller Skating Academy.
