DAVANGERE: Deputy Commissioner K. Amaranarayana has instructed officials to remove all encroachments on lake- and tank-beds here as well as crops being grown on the encroached land. Chairing a public grievances meeting here on Saturday, Mr. Amaranarayana asked tahsildars and revenue officers to clear the encroachments with the help of the police. A complaint about encroachments on a lake-bed and a burial ground in Honnali was made by a person at the meeting. Lakes and tanks were meant to provide water to the people, Mr. Amaranarayana said. They should not be encroached upon. When an officer of the Revenue Department from Harpanahalli failed to furnish details about the progress made by his department, the Deputy Commissioner asked officers to come well prepared for meetings. Teachers’ DayAll district-level officers have decided to contribute a day’s salary towards the Teachers’ Day celebrations to be held on September 5. Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner urged the officials to donate a day’s salary for the programme. Referring to a complaint, he asked the officials of the Davangere City Corporation to remove banners, buntings, flex-board and other publicity material put up in different parts of the city without obtaining the permission of the authorities. He told the officials to ensure that the expenses incurred towards removing them were recovered from those responsible for putting them up.
