Film director Jayaram dies

Special Correspondent

Bangalore: The noted Kannada film director K.V. Jayaram died at his residence here on Saturday after a prolonged illness. He was 59 and is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.

Known for making sensitive and serious cinema using the family as a background, Mr. Jayaram earned the distinction of being next only to the legendary film director late Puttanna Kanagal in adapting Kannada novels, particularly of popular women writers, to the screen.

The recipient of the prestigious Puttanna Kanagal award, Mr. Jayaram directed over 25 films in his over two-decade career.
