CHIKMAGALUR: Anand Vasanth Asnotikar, Minister for Fisheries, Science and Technology, said on Friday that computer centres would be opened in all gram panchayats in the State. Speaking after unfurling the tricolour here, he said the monthly honorarium of 90,000 gram panchayat members would be increased to Rs. 250. Recalling the sacrifices by freedom fighters, he stressed the need to put an end to terrorism and corruption. DutyIt was the duty of every citizen to resolve to fight against divisive forces, he added. Chandramma Manjunath, zilla panchayat president; Bharati Lokesh, taluk panchayat president; C.P. Krishna, municipality president; C.T. Ravi, MLA; R. Narayanaswamy, Deputy Commissioner; Hemant Nimbalkar, Superintendent of Police; and K. Sundar Naik, zilla panchayat Chief Executive Officer were present. Addressing presspersons later, Mr. Asnotikar said Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa had released Rs. 5 crore for Mastashraya, a housing scheme for fishermen, under which each beneficiary would get Rs. 40,000 to construct a house. He said that 2,800 houses were sanctioned last year. But the Centre was yet to release its share of funds. The Minister said that Rs. 8 crore would be spent on production of fresh and salt water fish in the State. He would visit the Bhadra and Hemavati reservoirs shortly in this regard, he added.
